What Sets Us Apart as a Leading Manufacturer of Commercial-Scale Pyrolysis Plants in Technology and Reliability?

    1. Our Pyrolysis Technology, Engineering Philosophy, and Applicable Standards and Regulations?

We do not claim to possess “state-of-the-art,” “innovative,” or “cutting-edge” pyrolysis technology. However, we do design and manufacture high-quality pyrolysis plants based on advanced pyrolysis technology. Sometimes it is simply evident even by comparing photographs of our high-capacity rotary pyrolysis reactors and the barrel-like equipment fabricated by some competitors.

The engineering philosophy and design basis of our pyrolysis plants are founded on the standards of the European Community and the relevant BREFs (Best Available Techniques Reference Documents).

    2. How our pyrolysis equipment is manufactured and assembled?

Our pyrolysis equipment is fabricated from high-quality steel and premium components which are essential for the reliable operation of the pyrolysis plant. The equipment is provided with an EC Declaration of Conformity.

Our group operates several assembly workshops for our pyrolysis and gasification furnaces. We can also demonstrate evidences of the assembled pyrolysis and gasification units supplied to customers.

    3. What are the special design features of our pyrolysis reactors?

Our pyrolysis reactors are flexible in design: the pyrolysis process can be heated either by flue gas or electricity. Reliable rotary pyrolysis kilns equipped with advanced control system ensure consistent operation. Each project is not delivered off the shelf but rather optimized according to the project's feedstock and final goals and products.

    4. What is typical temperature of our pyrolysis process?

Our pyrolysis process can occur between 380 °C and 750 °C, and can reach up to 850 °C when necessary.

Actual pyrolysis process temperature depends on the application. For example, biochar pyrolysis as a fuel substitute occurs at approximately 400°C, while biochar pyrolysis for steelmaking is performed at temperatures above 700°C. Typical temeprature at waste plastic pyrolysis plant ranges from 500 to 625°C.

    5. What is a typical capacity of our pyrolysis plant and annual operating time?

The maximum single-line pyrolysis unit capacity is determined by the feedstock's calorific value and the equipment's transportability by truck.

For high calorific feedstocks such as plastics and tyres our standard maximum capacity is 5 tons per hour (tph), while for MSW/RDF, sludge, and fractions of ASR it is 10 tph. The minimum capacities are 2.5 tph and 5 tph, respectively. For wood pyrolysis plants we have a special design with capacities up to 15 tph. The maximum allowable inlet moisture content is 15% by weight.

The annual operating time of our continuos pyrolysis plant is 8,000 hours.

    6. What is a typical delivery time of large-scale pyrolysis plant?

As depends on market situation e.g with high quality stainless steel supply time, it is 12-15 months (ExW) from the moment of the contract signature.

    7. What is a plastic pyrolysis plant and do we specialize in plastics pyrolysis?

The best plastics for plastic pyrolysis-to-oil are polyethylene, polypropylene, polystyrene (PE, PP, PS), or their mixtures. A plastic pyrolysis plant is a typical pyrolysis plant where waste plastics (PP, PE, PS) undergo pyrolysis, producing syngas and some solid char. The syngas exiting the pyrolysis reactor is cooled down, producing pyrolysis oil. Pyrolysis oil can be further distilled to produce several fractions corresponding to naphtha, diesel oil, and fuel oil No. 5. Non-condensable gases are used to provide heat for the pyrolysis process. Any excess heat can be supplied to other thermal energy consumers, such as preheating crude pyrolysis oil prior to its distillation, if required.

Plastics pyrolysis is one of our specializations in large-scale pyrolysis systems. The minimum capacity of delivered commercial plastic pyrolysis units is 60 tons per day (tpd). The annual operating time is 8,000 hours. The typical process temperature ranges between 500 and 600 °C. Recently, in 2025, we completed a 240 tpd pyrolysis unit in the USA that converts plastic to oil.

Plastic pyrolysis can also be performed without oil condensation, producing high-calorific syngas that can be used for energy generation or hydrogen production.

Splainex was recognized as a pyrolysis technology provider in the report “Converting Waste Plastics into Resources: A Compendium of Technologies,” published by the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) in 2009.

    8. What is a biochar plant and can we supply biochar pyrolysis plant?

A biochar plant is a typical pyrolysis plant where biomass (wood) undergoes pyrolysis, producing solid biochar and syngas.

Yes, we design and manufacture pyrolysis systems capable of producing various types of quality biochar for industrial and agricultural applications. The pyrolysis temperature is determined by the intended use of the biochar. Biochar produced as a fossil fuel substitute is generated at low temperatures, around 400°C, while biochar for steel production—which is quite popular nowadays—is produced at higher temperatures of 750°C and above. Pyrolysis temperatures for other applications fall within this range.

The minimum annual feedstock capacity for pyrolysis plants is 40,000 tons, and the maximum single-line capacity of a biochar pyrolysis plant implementing our advanced pyrolysis system design is 120,000 tons per annum (tpa). For more information on biochar equipment see our specialized site biochar.equipment: design and supply pyrolysis equipment for biochar production

    9. What is a tyre pyrolysis plant and can we design and manufacture a tyre pyrolysis plant?

Certainly, we design and supply a tyre pyrolysis unit. Tyre recycling at tyre pyrolysis plant is similar to plastic pyrolysis and can be carried out to produce either oil condensate or syngas as the targeted products. The primary difference is the significantly higher amount of solid char generated, which can be further upgraded to carbon black or gasified to produce high-calorific syngas.

The condensed oil from tyre pyrolysis is more viscous and contains some sulfur, as sulfur and its compounds are used in tyre manufacturing. The minimum capacity of the supplied by us tyre pyrolysis units is 60 tons per day (tpd), while the maximum single-line capacity is 120 tpd. The annual operating time is 8,000 hours.

Long-term experience gained from practical realization of the large-scale commercial pyrolysis units distinguishes us from the competitors and serves as an additional guarantee for customers.
